Music Influence on Visual Short-Term Memory

Music is an essential part of everyone's life. We listen to her almost every day and we know that she has some influence on us. What is interesting to me personally is how music affects our cognitive abilities, especially short-term memory. The theoretical part of the work is based mainly on contemporary research in memory and new theories of memory. The aim of this work is to find correlations between performance in the short-term visual memory test and the presence of text in the music that accompanies the test. Respondents were tested using the Short Neuropsychological Battery, subtest Copy of image (Straková, Věchetová, Dvořáková, Orlíková and Preiss, 2020). The total number of respondents is 120, they are people without cognitive problems. Age group 18 to 50 years. The results of our research show that music has a negative effect on performance in the short-term visual memory test. Music with words is more disturbing and has a greater negative effect than the melody itself without words. The best performance is manifested in a quiet environment. During the research, new ideas emerged, and therefore the practical part has one branch, focused on the use of mnemonics during memorization, the number of respondents is 87.
